When I was little my mom made us these great advent calendars. They were strips of santa fabric and then a peppermint was tied to red yarn. One for each day. When we were older and out of the house Mom gave 1/2 to me and 1/2 to my brother.
I really wanted to get this out for the kids but they are just not the right age for peppermints. Also hanging candy might not stay hanging with Henry around. So I came up with an alternative. I used a mini muffin pan and filled each cup with little treats like stickers, squinkies, and skittles. Then wrapped them with tissue paper. I placed a number sticker for each date then the kids can open a cup each day. It has helped with explaining how many days until Christmas.
I have some changes planned for next year but this year it seems to do the job.
